Social project: House construction in Malawi

Finally Mary and her three children have a real roof over their heads.

In cooperation with Habitat for Humanity Netherlands we sponsored the construction of a house for Mary and her children in Malawi – in southern Africa.

33-year-old Mary and her children Grace, Joyce and Willard have been through more than one harsh turn of events. Since a miscarriage four years ago, Mary has been suffering from severe health problems and HIV. She takes care of her children alone; ever since her husband died three years ago.

The house in which they live can hardly be described as such. It is built from mud bricks, with a dirt floor and a roof of straw. This shelter offers hardly any protection, especially against rain. "Our life is not easy after the death of my husband. We had no hope for a better life anymore".
Together with local helpers in Malawi, Habitat Netherlands has helped Mary's family to improve their quality of life by building this house. "Habitat has given me hope again! If we soon live in our new house, the children and I will really get a better life".

We are already looking forward to the next project.
